Are video games a waste of time?

I remember my younger days when I used to play Runescape.

I spent HOURS each day perfecting my character.

Trying to get the best armor.

The best weapons.

The highest level.

And one day it hit me…

Why am I even doing this?

The character I’m working so hard on is not even real.

It doesn’t even exist.

It’s just moving pixels on a computer screen.

I realized I had been wasting precious time.

Time I’d never get back.

All that skilling and leveling up did nothing for my real-life character.

Me.

All that time could’ve been spent on improving my physicality.

My finances.

My mental state.

My social skills.

With all that said, are video games a waste of time?

It depends.

Do you use them the same way I did?

If so, absolutely.

However, I see no issue with putting off 1 hour at the end of the day to unwind and reward yourself after a hard day’s work.

In that case, they can be a healthy addition to your life.

But remember, goals are for real life.

Not video games.

The moment you start setting goals for a nonexistent character in a nonexistent world, that’s when things can go sideways.

That’s when you become consumed by them.

Games should only be used for fun and relaxation.

Because it doesn’t matter how good you become at a game.

It will quite literally do fuck all for your life.

If this hit home, you needed to read this.

Shift your perspective on video games.

Stop leveling up in video games.

Start leveling up in real life.

Your future self will thank you for it.

Till next time!
